John Schnackenberg
Born and raised locally, John began playing saxophone over 50 years ago and grew up in a household where the songs from the Great American Songbook were always playing from the stereo or played on the piano by his father. John has been a tenor player for most of his career, but his love of the baritone saxophone and the intimate sound of small group jazz recordings and performances is the inspiration to form the Schnack n’ Bari trio which is a collaboration with two excellent local musicians, Daniel Zimmerman on guitar and Kim Collins on standup acoustic bass and vocals. John’s longest running professional collaboration of over 35 years has been as an original member of Spencer the Gardener (which includes trumpeter Nate Berkey) who just released their latest studio album, “Shine On”.
