The Grand on State’s Visiting Artist Series Presents

An Intimate Evening
Roberta Gambarini & Tamir Hendelman

Wednesday, July 22, 2026

The Grand on State Street | Santa Barbara, CA

The Grand on State Street is honored to present An Intimate Evening with Roberta Gambarini & Tamir Hendelman on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, as part of its Visiting Artist Series.

This special one-night engagement brings two internationally acclaimed jazz artists to The Grand’s intimate listening room in the heart of Santa Barbara’s Theatre District. Grammy-nominated vocalist Roberta Gambarini is celebrated for her extraordinary command of the jazz vocal tradition, her warmth, elegance, improvisational brilliance, and deep connection to the great American songbook.

She will be joined by pianist and arranger Tamir Hendelman, known for his lyrical touch, sophisticated harmonies, and work with some of the most respected names in jazz. Together, Gambarini and Hendelman offer an evening of musical conversation, swing, intimacy, and world-class artistry.

Located at 1218 State Street, next to The Granada Theatre, The Grand on State Street was created as a music-first venue where live performance, dining, wine, and late-night elegance come together in a beautifully designed room centered around a Steinway grand piano.

“Our Visiting Artist Series is about bringing extraordinary musicians into close connection with our Santa Barbara community of music lovers,” said Jenna Berg, owner of The Grand on State Street. “Roberta Gambarini and Tamir Hendelman are exactly the kind of artists The Grand was made for — artists whose precision, sophistication, and soulful communication are best experienced up close.”

Guests are invited to come early for dinner, wine, and dessert, and stay for an intimate evening of exceptional jazz.

Roberta Gambarini

Roberta Gambarini is among the most acclaimed jazz vocalists performing today. Born in Turin, Italy, she made an immediate international impression as a runner-up in the 1998 Thelonious Monk Jazz Vocal Competition, launching a career that has taken her to Carnegie Hall, the Hollywood Bowl, Royal Albert Hall, Salle Pleyel in Paris, and major festivals including Monterey and Newport.

Her Grammy-nominated albums Easy to Love and So in Love — both nominated for Jazz Vocal Album of the Year — have earned wide critical recognition, and her collaborators read like a who’s who of jazz: Herbie Hancock, Hank Jones, Roy Hargrove, Dave Brubeck, the Dizzy Gillespie All Stars Big Band, and many others.

In 2023, the French Ministry of Culture honored her with the Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres. Elegant, fearless, and deeply musical, Gambarini carries forward the tradition of Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, and Carmen McRae — entirely on her own terms.

Tamir Hendelman

Tamir Hendelman is one of the most accomplished and versatile jazz pianists working today — a commanding soloist, inventive composer, and one of the most trusted accompanists and arrangers for leading jazz artists. Born in Tel Aviv and raised in Los Angeles, he began keyboard studies at age six, won Yamaha’s national keyboard competition as a teenager, and went on to earn his Bachelor of Music in Composition from the Eastman School of Music.

Since 2000, Hendelman has toured the United States, Europe, and Japan with his own trio, the Jeff Hamilton Trio, and the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra. His recording and performance partnerships have included Barbra Streisand, Natalie Cole, Roberta Gambarini, Richard Galliano, Claudio Roditi, and many others.

As a leader, his albums Playground and Destinations both reached the top of the U.S. jazz charts, with Destinations showcasing his remarkable range — from original compositions to Jobim, Keith Jarrett, and Ravel. Hendelman has been a member of the jazz faculty at UCLA’s Herb Alpert School of Music since 2005, where he continues to shape the next generation of jazz musicians.
